It is an epic story about Ethan Edwards a civil war veteran and loner. He returns to his brother's house in rural Texas in 1868 after fighting civil war.

His brother along with his son and sister-in-law are killed by Indians during their raid. They abduct his two nieces.

Ethan and Martin start the search of young girls. Elder is found murdered and her fiance also gets killed while trying to avenge. Ethan and Martin continue their search for younger girl.

After five long and strenuous years of search, Ethan gets the where abouts of his niece. Ethan has gathered deep hatred for indians. To his utter dismay, he finds that his niece has married that indian chief.

Torn between his hatred for indians and love for his niece, he becomes confused and angry. Finally, he kills the indian chief and avenge his brother's murder. Brings his niece back home.

John Wayne as Ethan Edwards is very impressive. He performs very well as a loner who is internally tormented. His deep hatred towards indians reveals the situation of that time.

Searchers the movie has become the classic westerner which is popular even today.
