Angus Movie - Morale Boosting for Overweight Kids.

Angus Movie is one of the rare film where a fat smart kid beats a handsome and gets a girl. It boosts confidence of fat but smart kids.

Angus Bethune is a 14 year old high school kid is fat and overweight. A talented footballer and a bright science student, he is subjected to consistent cruelties by a handsome Rick and others. It makes him more insecure. Less confident of himself despite talents.

Rick never loose a chance to humiliate him. He has created a situation where Angus has to dance with Melissa in winter ball as king and queen. Melissa is his secret crush. Insecurities prevent him from expressing it.

He is supported by his only friend Troy, his mother Meg and his Grandpa. They try to infuse confidence in him and make him take dancing lessons from Madam Rulenska. After a humiliating scene by Rick, Melissa confides with Angus that she finds Rick repulsive. She teaches him dancing steps.

Finally, Angus confronts Rick firmly while defending Melissa. He refuses his attitude of humiliating others and affirm his own stand. He recognizes and accepts his uniqueness. Performs the dance wearing an odd colored suite presented by his Grandpa and wins over Melissa.

Brilliant performances by George C. Scott as Grandpa, Kathy Bates as Meg and Rita Moreno as Madam Rulenska. Charlie Talbert as Angus Bethune is good. Despite being fat, he is smart, likable and humorous.

Angus movie was released in 1995 performing well at box office. It has a cult following till date.
